Raubtier

Cornelissen utilises a wide range of techniques in her sculptures, with the common underlying theme of choosing to sculpt animals. She does not focus on accurately re-capturing the physique of the animal, but rather tries to express the less obvious personality and character traits that belong to a particular animal. It is with great difficulty that she carefully creates her sculptures, taking into account the volume and size of the piece. The style that Heike Cornelissen has developed over the course of her artistic career may resemble influences from expressionism (e.g Franz Marc). What is of paramount importance in her sculptures is her own influence of her emotions. You will mostly find that her sculptures are of individual animals, disconnected from it’s group and habitat, giving the individual stronger attention to detail.
